Top things to know about MLKCH's Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center

We recently did a Facebook Live session featuring MLKCH podiatrist Dr. Myron Hall. Below are some of the top things you should know about hard-to-heal and non-healing wounds and our state-of-the-art Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center.

The center has two hyperbaric chambers that help patients with hard-to-heal and non-healing wounds to heal faster. The chambers generate 100% oxygen that skin absorbs. This is very important for wound healing. The oxygen delivers nutrients to the wound that it needs to heal.

Diabetics

  • Diabetic patients are at very high risk for peripheral vascular disease, which in many cases, decreases their ability to feel sensations.
  • If you are diabetic, you should have regular foot exams every three to six months with a podiatrist or your primary care physician. Below is a simple, at-home foot exam:

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment at our center

  • Medicare covers MLKCH's hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, but there are certain conditions that the patient must meet. Deeper wounds that have bone infections, wounds that have been treated with intravenous antibiotics, or wounds treated via surgery qualify.
  • There is no waiting list for MLKCH's hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. Call us for a referral or more information at (424) 242-0732.
  • Each session lasts two hours.
  • The center conducts sessions Monday through Friday.

The entire Facebook live session can be viewed here on our MLKCH Facebook page.
