Hospital Price Transparency

Federal law requires hospitals to share certain pricing information. MLK Community Healthcare provides the resources below to help patients and families better understand hospital charges.

The prices shown on this page are standard charges. These prices are not what most patients will pay. Your actual cost depends on your insurance, the care you receive and your personal situation.

Because costs vary from person to person, we encourage patients to learn more about their own expected costs before getting care.

What We're Required to Share

Hospitals must provide pricing information in two ways:

  • A machine-readable file that lists standard charges for all items and services
  • A consumer-friendly list of prices for 500 common services that can be scheduled in advance (called shoppable services)

The information below is provided to meet these federal requirements.

Important Things to Know
About These Prices

  • The prices shown here are general information only
  • They do not reflect the exact cost for any individual patient
  • Patients with insurance should contact their insurance plan directly to understand:
    • Copays
    • Coinsurance
    • Deductibles
  • Federal rules do not require hospitals to list Medicare or Medi-Cal fee-for-service rates

How MLKCH Pricing Works

MLK Community Healthcare sets prices differently than many other hospitals.

Instead of charging for each item or service, we often use bundled pricing, such as:

  • Per day
  • Per visit
  • Per episode of care

Because of this:

  • Some posted prices are estimates
  • There may not be a one-to-one match between a service and a single charge
  • We do not bill patients using item-by-item pricing

Why Prices May Vary

Prices may be different based on:

  • The type of care setting
    • For example, care in an emergency department may cost more than care in a clinic
  • The seriousness of the condition
  • The patient’s insurance coverage
  • Whether a patient qualifies for financial assistance

Many prices are also negotiated with insurance companies and may vary by:

  • Hospital
  • Service type
  • Location
  • Patient population

The information on this page does not guarantee services at any specific price.

Because of these factors, it can be difficult to compare prices between MLK Community Healthcare and other hospitals.
