"I always remind myself that everyone comes from a different background and I think it’s very important to listen to the patients and their families without judgment first instead of us deciding what’s best for them."

Born and raised in Japan, she uses her international background as a point of connection with her patients. "I always remind myself that everyone comes from different backgrounds, has different socioeconomic state, and has various spiritual/religious views. I think it’s very important to listen to the patients and their families without judgment first instead of us deciding what’s best for them."

Recently, she helped a patient's family travel to the US to visit. Talk about going the extra mile! Her compassion earned her a DAISY award, a peer-nominated recognition of exceptional nurses.
